Casino industry was developed in Vanuatu in the 1980s, after Vanuatu achieved its independence. There are now
two large casinos in Vanuatu, both located in the capital Port Vila.
The Palms Casino is located at Le Meridien Hotel and features table games based on
Australian casino rules. It acceptes international currencies. The hotel has three restaurants, two swimming pools
and golf course.
The Club 21 Limited is located in the Melanesian Hotel,
which has two restaurants, swimming pool and tennis court. Visitors can play blackjak or baccarat, or choose one of

Fiji Casino Resort
In late 2011 Fiji was to become the latest casino destination in the South Pacific. It was announced that an
American multimilionaire won the right to build a large casino in Fiji islands. The casino resort was to be built
on Denarau Island. This is one of the main tourist destinations in the country. It was planned to have 500 slot
machines, 54 tables and a five-star resort included in the project.
As of late 2013, this integrated Fiji casino project is in doubt. This leaves other South Pacific destinations,
that already have well established casinos, including Vanuatu, as the main casino
destinations in this part of the world.

Solomon Islands Casino
Although only a small island by comparison to other island destinations in the South Pacific, Solomon Islands also feature a casino. The Pacific Casino Hotel is located on the island
of Guadalcanal. This is some 4 kilometres away from Honiara, the capital of Solomons.
