  • Melanesian Membership Benefits - countless specials available from the 1st April 2009 until the 31st March 2010 
  • Fatutu Eco Bungalows on Aniwa Island - an eco-community-bungalow project, owned & operated by the indigenous people of Aniwa Island 

February 2009 - The Travel Bug 48

  • Vanuatu Air Travel Growth at 30%! - incredibly solid growth in air travel demand 
  • Ambrym Volcano on Alert - Marum and Benbow volcanos now at level 2 of the Vanuatu Volcano Alert Level (VVAL) 
  • "Zorbing" down the Devil's Point Slope - a fun and unique ride down the picturesque Mele hills inside a 2.5 meters giant inflatable Hydro ball 
  • Jupiters Vanuatu Casino Opens on 6th February - new Vanuatu casino opens at the Sebel Hotel on Friday February 6th 
  • More Air Vanuatu Flights to Santo and Tanna Islands - new ATR-72 aircraft will enable more flights from Tanna and Santo to Vila 

March 2009 - The Travel Bug 49

  • South Malekula Kastom Festival in September - 3-day cultural event “Reef Island Life” starts on 18th September 
  • Vanuatu 2009 Tok Tok confirmed - to be held at the Sebel Vanuatu on 27 and 28 August 
  • Vanuatu’s first mountain biking competition! - "Cyclo Vate" Mountain Bike racing is scheduled for early May 
  • New Land Dive Packages for 2009 - this year's land dives take place in April, May and June 
  • Vanuatu Seaplanes New Vanuatu Air Charters - 5 seated Cessna 206 added to the fleet 
  • Village de Santo opening soon - featuring 18 modern unit apartments that can comfortably sleep 4-5 guests 
  • Air Vanuatu welcomes first Ni-Van engineer - Simon Nompavos from Erromango has been promoted to work as an engineer on the Boeing 737-800 

April 2009 - The Travel Bug 50

  • Air Vanuatu will offer TV programs on flights - in-flight entertainment on board all international flights on the Boeing 737-800 
  • Wendy Matthews 11th April concert at The Sebel - multi award-winning entertainer has been nominated for 13 ARIA awards and has won 7 including Best Female Artist, 3 times! 
  • Victoria Café opens in Santo - located near Alan Power Dive Shop in Luganville’s town center 
  • Enkahi Discovery Tours on Tanna - an exciting and unique eco adventure experience visitors can enjoy whilst on Tanna 

May 2009 - The Travel Bug 51

  • South Pacific Tourism Thrived in 2008 - visitors increased by 3% to surpass 1.36 million, on top of increases of 4% in 2007 and 3% in 2006 
  • Pango Green Motel to open - the motel will have 10 units, 5 on ground floor and 5 upstairs, to open in a few months time 
  • Air Vanuatu Early Bird Airfares - return flights for around 50,000 vatu 
  • Tok Tok Vanuatu 2009 - to be held at the Sebel Vanuatu on August 27 and 28 

June 2009 - The Travel Bug 52

  • Port Vila Parasailing Launch - 40 local business people and residents attended the launch at Café Du Village, where the parasailing boat “Deliverance” is moored 
  • Vanuatu Ocean Swim Kicks Off - the 3.2 Km and 1.5 Km Vanuatu Ocean swim race is being held in Port Vila Harbour on Saturday 13th June 2009, at 8am 
  • La Grillade Restaurant - the signature restaurant of Starfish Cove, featuring la carte menu with a fine selection of Vanuatu Beef and Seafood Grills 

July 2009 - The Travel Bug 53

  • Vanuatu Ocean Swims Attract Record Numbers - record competitors numbers at both Port Vila and Santo events 
  • Vanuatu Kitesurfing Classic in August - the 3rd Vanuatu International Kitesurfing Classic will take place on Efate Island 
  • Pacific Youth Festival - celebrated every four years by youth within the Pacific region 

August 2009 - The Travel Bug 54

  • Vanuatu Baristas Competition Invites World's Best - coffee making competition will be held this year from 12 -14 November at Le Lagon Resort Port Vila 
  • New General Manager for Ratua Private Island - Frederick Jean-Claude Maclean takes the helm 
  • Vanuatu International Kitesurfing Classic in September - this year's Kitesurfing Classic will take place on Efate Island 
  • "Diesel" and "Swing Central" coming to Sebel Hotel & Iririki Resort - fronted by Brad Leaver who is considered to be one of Australia's foremost crooners 

September 2009 - The Travel Bug 55

  • Vanuatu Tourism Awards Entries Invited - Vanuatu is set to recognize the 2009 “Tourism Stars” 
  • Tripadvisor rates Nirvana Resort top Specialty Lodging - only opened a few months ago, its’ first lot of guests are already raving about the resort 
  • The ATR-72 aircraft expected by October - the new aircraft will enable more capacity from Tanna and Santo to Vila 
  • Tui Lodge - hot new property on Ambae island - catered to suit any taste of travelers with 6 appointed rooms 

October 2009 - The Travel Bug 56

  • Evergreen Tours new Magical Evening Tour - Ma’tepara Magical Evening Tour translates to ‘eye where noise comes from’ 
  • Italian pizza and pasta night at The Melanesian - the special dinner extravaganza will be presented by Head Chef Joemar Peregrino 
  • The Sebel Vanuatu - Mirvac Hotels & Resorts will cease management of The Sebel Vanuatu 
  • Espiritu Santo Gamefishing in November - sampling excellent blue marlin fishing for which this destination is famous 

November 2009 - The Travel Bug 57

  • Bill Bauer visits airport named after his father - the son of the US Marine Corps Harry Bauer whose name has been used to name Vanuatu’s international and domestic airport in Port Vila, visited the airport yesterday 
  • Noumea Surf Tour 2009 in Vanuatu - the objective is to stage the first Pacific Island surf tour of its kind 
  • International Media Visits Port Vila - TV crew from Germany and news media from Australia and New Zealand attend the National Arts Festival and the Fest Napuan Music Festival 
  • Vanuatu Tourism fan page on FaceBook - Mr Danish Syed, owner of Aquamrine dive centre in Santo teams with VTO to publish a Vanuatu Tourism fan page on Facebook 
  • Vanuatu Marlin Classic Dates 2010 - to be held from the 23rd – 29th May 2010 

December 2009 - The Travel Bug 58

  • Lavakil Hidden Treasure bungalows on Tanna Island - offering 4 Melanesian style bungalows with private facilities
